General Introduction

B.A. in Japanese aims to train well-rounded professionals with multidisciplinary background and hands-on experience who have a good command of English language and fundamentals of business and trade. Our mission is “to lay a solid foundation, to provide a broad knowledge scope, and to nurture humanitarian qualities”. Students are equipped with critical thinking abilities and taught to apply theories creatively to practice. Students are also provided with opportunities of exchange programs. To meet the requirements of this major, students should have a good command of Japanese language and should be proficient in listening, speaking, reading and translation. Students are also equipped with professional knowledge of international trade which makes them competent translators and interpreters in international trade. After graduation, students can enter education, foreign affairs, foreign trade, scientific translation, press and publications, radio,film and television, foreign-related enterprises, tourism, enterprises and public institutions as well as other sectors to engage in teaching, training, researching, interpreting, translation or other professions in which Japanese is used.

A flexible schooling system is adopted and the standard duration is a period of 4 years. Students can finish the curriculum within 3 to 6 years according to the Management Regulation of Undergraduate Degrees in Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. The curriculum is divided into 5 modules, namely, General Courses, Basic Disciplinary Courses, Degree Courses, Laboratory and Practice Courses and Courses for Humanitarian Qualities. The modules of Common Courses, General Education Courses and Specialized Courses are further divided into 2 parts, i.e., compulsory courses and optional courses. The total credits are 175, of which classroom teaching accounts for 150, practice accounts for 13, and extracurricular humanitarian education accounts for 12.
