Professor, Doctorate Candidate’s Supervisor


Received his PhD from China Central Normal University (CCNU) and Master’s from University of Queensland (UQ.) , he is the chair professor in English Language and Literature, The Department of English; he was the visiting professor of The State University of New York at Stony Brook from 2011 to 2012. 

He is the executive general director of Hubei Foreign Literature Study Society, and executive deputy director Hubei Provincial Translators’Association, the communication judge of The National Foundation for Philosophy and Social Science from 2016, the chief judge of National Standard Mandarin Language Testing and Training Center in MOE from 1999, Chief professor of MOE National Level courses Chinese Culture in English for International Students(2017), the manager of The Research Project of National Level Foundation for Philosophy and Social Science The South African English Novels Study of the twentieth Century (14BWW075). 

His research interests are the postcolonial literature, the South African fictions, film Literature and translation studies, with a focus on South Africa English novels, and particular interest in the work of J. M. Coetzee and other South African contemporary authors include Andre Brink, Zakes Mda and Nadine Gordimer. He was the caller and organizer of The International Symposium on Coetzee Studies and Post-colonial Literature in China 2010. 

He is the author of 5 academic books including The Island Consciousness: The Writing Situation of Imperial Diaspora Intellectuals On J.M. Coetzee’s Literary Theory and Criticism (Foreign Languages Teaching and Research Press, Beijing, 2011), English Film Literature and Critical Theory (Beijing Institute of Technology Press, 2013), J.M. Coetzee’s Experimental Creation and Modernism Writing (Wuhan Uni Press, 2017), editor of  international conference proceeding Coetzee Study and Postcolonial Literature Research (Wuhan Uni Press, 2011); he is also Chinese translator of two books including The Columbia Guide to South African Literature in English Since 1945(Wuhan Uni Press, 2017)and one of Oxford classics written by William Arens The Man-Eating Myth: Anthropology & Anthropophagy (Wuhan Uni Press, 2018). He published more than 60 academic essays and won the First Prize twice of Hubei Provincial Social Science Research for the Foreign Literature Studies in 2014 &2016.
